Matt is an experienced international trade and corporate compliance attorney with extensive experience providing advice on supply chain risk, export controls, economic sanctions, customs law, foreign investment, and anti-corruption matters.
Prior to joining Wiley, Matt served in a variety of roles in private practice, in-house, and government. He has represented clients in a range of industries, including life sciences, aerospace, energy, and automotive, as well as high-tech and semiconductors.
Experience
Representative Matters
- Counseled and represented clients in investigations and disclosures of economic sanctions and export controls violations to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. Department of State.
- Represented U.S. and international clients in submissions and mitigation agreements involving the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).
- Conducted risk assessments and audits and provided counseling to clients on supply chain risks, including forced labor, conflict minerals, and U.S. federal procurement sourcing restrictions.
- Represented clients before U.S. Customs and Border Protection in protests, ruling reconsiderations, and offers in compromise.
- Served as seconded regional compliance counsel for a multinational life sciences company in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region (former Soviet republics) and the U.S./Canada region
