Controlling Technology and Data When Dealing with Foreign Actors
Federal and state law enforcement officials are looking closely at foreign actors’ access to sensitive technology and data – whether it’s shared intentionally or accessed covertly. The federal government has enacted a range of new technology export controls, while the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission prepare to enforce restrictions on sharing sensitive personal data of individuals in the United States. State Attorneys General are also now investigating, with a focus on data access by the People’s Republic of China. We will discuss the enforcement landscape and practical steps to take to protect sensitive technology and data.
