Former DOJ Prosecutor Jason McCullough Joins Wiley’s White Collar Practice

January 14, 2026

Washington, DC – Wiley is pleased to announce that Jason McCullough has joined the firm as a partner in its White Collar Defense & Government Investigations Practice. A former federal prosecutor and trial lawyer with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), McCullough brings two decades of experience spanning public and private practice, focused on complex criminal and civil enforcement matters – including national security-related investigations, foreign influence matters, and other white-collar enforcement challenges.

Prior to joining Wiley, McCullough served in senior leadership roles within the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, including as a lead prosecutor and supervisor in complex, high-profile investigations and trials. His work encompassed politically sensitive national security matters involving terrorism, foreign influence, and complex conspiracies, and he was recognized across administrations with honors including the Attorney General’s Award for Extraordinary Contributions and the Assistant Attorney General Award for Excellence in Prosecution.

“Jason’s arrival further strengthens our White Collar team at a time when enforcement matters increasingly intersect with national security, cross-border regulation, and corporate risk,” said Wiley Managing Partner Peter D. Shields. “His experience leading complex DOJ investigations and trials enhances the counsel we provide to clients facing high-stakes investigations and litigation.”

Before the U.S. Attorney’s Office, McCullough served as a trial attorney in the DOJ’s National Security Division, where he investigated and prosecuted matters involving export controls and sanctions, economic espionage, cyber-enabled threats, and foreign influence operations – including investigations implicating the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) – across sectors such as defense, manufacturing, and higher education.

“Jason’s experience at the Department of Justice handling sensitive and complex investigations gives him gives him invaluable insight into how enforcement decisions are made and will help our clients navigate and manage enforcement risk,” said Ralph J. Caccia, chair of Wiley’s White Collar Defense & Government Investigations Practice. “His extensive background across government and private practice deepens the collective experience of our team and will add great value to our clients as they face high stakes matters where timing, coordination, and execution are critical.”

McCullough adds to Wiley’s deep bench of former federal prosecutors, former government officials, and seasoned practitioners advising clients amid increased investigations and enforcement activity from DOJ, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and other agencies. His arrival further enhances the firm’s ability to counsel companies and individuals facing parallel criminal and civil proceedings across white-collar defense, internal investigations, crisis management, and compliance matters.

Prior to his DOJ experience, McCullough served in private practice representing multinational corporations and individuals in criminal and civil matters before DOJ, the SEC, and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), as well as in global investigations, compliance reviews, and related civil litigation.

“Wiley is an exceptional place. Its attorneys’ unparalleled talent, decades of experience, and collaborative approach across practice areas are what drew me to the firm,” said McCullough. “I am excited to join the Wiley team and contribute my own experience and judgment to take on any challenges faced by our clients – from high-stakes enforcement and regulatory scrutiny to navigating compliance risks.”

Wiley’s White Collar Defense & Government Investigations Practice advises companies and individuals in complex investigations and enforcement matters involving criminal, regulatory, and compliance issues. The team includes former federal prosecutors and senior government officials with experience before DOJ, SEC, and other enforcement authorities.
