Wiley Rein & Fielding Expands Intellectual Property Practice with Additional Patent Prosecution Expertise

Washington, DC—Wiley Rein & Fielding is pleased to announce that Floyd B. Chapman and David J. Kulik, formerly with the Washington, DC office of Brobeck, Pheleger & Harrison, have joined the firm’s preeminent Intellectual Property Practice as a partner and of counsel, respectively. Mr. Chapman and Mr. Kulik’s extensive intellectual property experience will complement the firm’s well-established Intellectual Property Practice, which includes over 25 attorneys skilled in copyright, patents and trademarks.

We already have an exceptional Intellectual Property Group, and Floyd and David add significantly to our ability to represent clients on all aspects of Intellectual Property."

Mr. Chapman has extensive experience representing clients in patent, trademark and copyright matters before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the United States Copyright Office, and the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences. In addition, he has significant litigation experience in both federal district courts and federal courts of appeal. Mr. Chapman regularly negotiates settlements in disputes, prepares infringement and validity opinions, conducts due diligence investigations of intellectual property in connection with corporate acquisitions, and counsels start-up companies in the creation and protection of intellectual property. He received his B.E.E. with high honors, from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his M.B.A. from Florida International University. Mr. Chapman earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Miami Law School where he was bestowed the Lillian R. Levy Award for Excellence and served as Executive Editor of the University of Miami Inter-American Law Review.

Mr. Kulik has experience in crafting patent procurement strategies for a range of companies—from Fortune 100’s to start-ups. He also has substantial experience in all aspects of litigation, having represented clients in patent, trademark and copyright matters in federal district courts, as well as the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences, and the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board. Mr. Kulik regularly counsels clients on trade secret protection, covenants not-to-compete, corporate compliance activities, trademark procurement and protection strategies, patent term extension strategies, patent licensing, technology collaborations and joint ventures. He earned his B.A. from the University of California at San Diego and received doctoral training and a fellowship in biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology at Northwestern University Graduate School. Mr. Kulik earned his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School.
