Robert Walker Discusses Indictment of New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver
Robert L. Walker, of counsel in Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was quoted by The Wall Street Journal in a January 23 article about New York state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who was arrested last week on federal corruption charges.
According to the indictment, lobbyists working on behalf of a developer met with Mr. Silver in 2011 to advocate “certain proposed terms” in real estate legislation, the Journal reported. Mr. Walker, a former federal prosecutor, told the Journal that in order to win a conviction, the government must provide details of the official actions Mr. Silver allegedly took on behalf of developers.
