Message from the Chief Diversity Officer
I am thrilled to serve as Wiley’s first Chief Diversity Officer. As the legal profession responds to an unprecedented period in our nation’s history, we recognize the magnitude of this moment. In 2020, we found ourselves in an unexpected reality, one that changed nearly every aspect of our day-to-day lives. It’s been more than a year since we were last able to gather in large group settings – and as if the physical isolation and other challenges of the global pandemic weren’t enough, we witnessed our nation grapple with how to accelerate change and achieve social justice and racial equity. We are engaged in important dialogues about race and ethnicity, in response to police killings of Black Americans and attacks on people from diverse backgrounds and in other communities of color.
Wiley’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Department was created last year as part of our ongoing effort to recruit, retain, and advance lawyers who reflect the diversity of the U.S. population. We are committed to increasing the representation of attorneys who are women, racially and ethnically diverse, LGBTQ+, and individuals with disabilities. We also seek to be the law firm employer of choice for veterans who have served our country. It is through this diversity that we will distinguish our firm and amplify the breadth and depth of our legal capabilities as a trusted advisor to our clients. These elements are the necessary ingredients to create and sustain a culture of belonging where we can all bring our authentic selves and perspectives.
A genuine commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion cannot be accomplished through mere words. It comes to fruition when we are intentional and strategic in curating meaningful and impactful experiences for each member of our firm. It will require ongoing reflection and self-assessment of Wiley’s culture and a renewed sense of urgency to ensure that we are facilitating a work environment that is most closely aligned with the highest ideals of the firm we aspire to be. We are at the beginning of this new chapter and we invite you join us on this journey.
Now is the time for each of us to be courageous and challenge ourselves to stand at the forefront of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession. We must take bold action to achieve the transformational change we deserve.

- What We ValueThe power of perspectives
Each year we are asked to provide updates on our diversity efforts. While we are proud of our efforts, we strive to be a firm who continuously drives the progress of diversity, equity and inclusion. We are a place where different perspectives are not only accepted, but are celebrated. This report captures a glimpse of what we value and a highlight of our 2020 efforts.
what is unique about DEI at wiley?
"I am honored to serve as the Chair of Wiley’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. As part of our important DEI work at Wiley, we pay particular attention to our policies and programs, and we assess how those practices may exacerbate diversity, equity, and inclusion concerns. With respect to DEI, we are keenly focused on being intentional and affirmative in our recruitment, retention, and promotion of diverse talent. We are excited about the years to come and the opportunities for Wiley to be a leader in the DEI space."
