FCC Makes Significant Changes To E-Rate Program

July 24, 2014

The Federal Communications Commission has released a Report and Order adopting new rules to modernize the E-rate program.  These new rules are intended to re-orient the E-rate program to ensure that schools and libraries have high-speed broadband connections needed for digital learning. The Order expands funding for Wi-Fi networks and makes significant changes to existing E-rate rules, including eliminating support for certain services, increasing pricing transparency, and streamlining the E-rate application process.
