Wiley Rein and U.S. Chamber of Commerce Co-Author Report on Internet of Things Security

September 19, 2017

Washington, DC—Wiley Rein LLP partnered with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to author a pivotal report offering key principles for Internet of Things (IoT) security. Released today by the U.S. Chamber, the report – The IoT Revolution and Our Digital Security – proposes recommendations for policymakers and industry experts to collaborate in reducing barriers to innovation and co-creating global frameworks to improve IoT security and resilience.

The report was issued as part of a business delegation to Brussels, Paris, and London to discuss transatlantic cybersecurity efforts. The U.S. Chamber is leading the delegation, which also includes Wiley Rein.

Because the IoT market is still developing, the report urges national IoT strategies to be developed based on thoughtful study and stakeholder input. The report also explores emerging IoT use cases and the complexity of the entire ecosystem.

Wiley Rein partner Megan L. Brown, a member of the firm’s Telecom, Media & Technology and Privacy & Cybersecurity and practices, serves as the lead author of the report. Wiley Rein associates Umair Javed, Kathleen E. Scott, Madi M. Lottenbach, and John T. Lin also contributed to the effort. Co-authors of the report are Ann M. Beauchesne, the Chamber’s Senior Vice President for National Security and Emergency Preparedness, and Sean Heather, Vice President of the Chamber’s Center for Global Regulatory Cooperation.

Wiley Rein is uniquely positioned to serve clients in the emerging area of connected devices/IoT. The firm’s Wireless Practice – complemented by experience before all federal agencies with interest in IoT – is a leader in the area of connected devices, helping clients develop “bring to market,” licensing, and compliance strategies for connected devices of all kinds.
