Boyd Garriott Quoted Regarding Implications of SCOTUS Data Privacy Ruling by Communications Daily
Boyd Garriott, associate in the Telecom, Media & Technology Practice, was quoted by Communications Daily in the article, "Net Effect of SCOTUS' Data Privacy Decision Still Unclear," regarding the implications for companies of the U.S. Supreme Court's recent data privacy ruling in Federal Communications Commission v. AT&T.
Garriott's comments, which came from his remarks at a June 25 Federal Communications Bar Association webinar, noted that regulated companies may not wish to engage in a court fight with the FCC. They’ll want to “resolve stuff without going all the way to litigation,” he said. “It has always been really, really expensive to litigate against the FCC,” he said. “I don’t know that that has changed terribly much.” For regulated companies that need to work with the FCC it has always been difficult “to stare down the agency and say, ‘No, I’m not playing ball.’”
