Michael Toner Discusses Growing Popularity of Single-Candidate Super PACs

The Washington Post
July 22, 2014

Michael E. Toner, co-chair of Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was quoted in an article published July 18 in The Washington Post about the increasing number of Super PACs supporting a single federal candidate during the 2014 election cycle, including candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives.  The article noted that during earlier election cycles, Super PACs active in multiple races were more prevalent and that certain donors this election cycle were interested in focusing their contributions on behalf of particular candidates running in particular states.  “Some of these single-candidate Super PACs have aggressively used that experience to say, ‘Hey, give to us — we’re not spending across the country, we’re not spread too thin,’ ” Mr. Toner said.
