C-Band Lump Sum Election Deadline Extended

August 21, 2020

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has extended its August 31, 2020 deadline for C-Band earth station licensees to submit their lump sum election notices until September 14, 2020. The extension was announced by the FCC on Thursday, August 20, 2020.

Earlier this year, the FCC voted to clear 280 MHz of spectrum that will be used for wireless services. A key component in clearing the spectrum is the reimbursement of expenses for the existing licensees that must now move to the remaining 200 MHz of spectrum reserved for satellite services. The FCC will permit those relocating C-Band earth stations to determine whether they should elect to receive a lump sum payment or seek reimbursement for their actual relocation costs. Those that do choose lump sum will be responsible for transitioning their C-Band earth stations. The extension of the lump sum election deadline gives C-Band earth station licensees additional time to consider their options.
