Press Release

Settlement Reached in Significant Pro Bono Action Brought by Wiley

July 31, 2023

The D.C. KinCare Alliance and the D.C. Housing Authority are pleased to jointly announce that they have resolved their differences and reached a settlement in regard to the litigation pending between the parties in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia concerning the Alliance's challenge to the manner in which the Housing Authority has interpreted and enforced certain of its regulations governing the addition of minor children to the households of non-parental custodial caregivers participating in the Housing Choice Voucher Program.

The Alliance acknowledges and expresses its gratitude to the Housing Authority for agreeing, without any admission of liability, to modify and clarify its regulations in a manner that will benefit the Alliance's clients. The Alliance appreciates that the Housing Authority, rather than prolonging the litigation by asserting various defenses, has prioritized the rights and interests of tenants that participate in this important public housing program. The Alliance thanks the Housing Authority and its counsel for their cooperative approach to negotiating the resolution of this matter.

Wiley Pro Bono Partner Theodore A. Howard and associate Lisa Rechden represented D.C. KinCare Alliance.
