Caleb Burns Discusses Campaign Finance Rules with The Maine Monitor
Caleb P. Burns, co-chair of the Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was quoted by The Maine Monitor about the lines between campaign and personal expenses in campaign finance in the article, "Former Maine congressional candidate admits mistake in GoFundMe appeal for donations."
“Individuals are free to raise money for their personal living expenses, and such fundraising would not be subject to federal campaign finance law,” said Burns. “However, the legal line between what constitutes a campaign expense and what constitutes a personal expense is often blurry.”
