Wiley’s Charlie Lemley Nominated for President-Elect of D.C. Bar, 2020-2021 Term

Washington, DC — The D.C. Bar Committee on Nominations announced yesterday that Wiley Rein LLP’s Charles C. (Charlie) Lemley has been nominated as a candidate for D.C. Bar President-Elect. If elected, Mr. Lemley would serve as President-Elect for the 2020-2021 term, and as President for the 2021-2022 term. This year’s D.C. Bar election will run from May 1 to June 1, and eligible voters will receive an email link to the general election ballot.

Mr. Lemley has served as a member of the D.C. Bar Litigation Section Steering Committee and as chair of the Limited Scope Working Group – a joint project of the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Committee and the D.C. Access to Justice Commission. The Working Group was recognized as D.C. Bar Project of the Year for recommending changes to court rules and to the D.C. Rules of Professional Conduct to facilitate limited-scope representation.

Mr. Lemley served for eight years as co-chair and chair of Wiley’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, empowering lawyers of all backgrounds to grow and achieve. During that time, he helped the firm to: (a) expand relationships with law schools and minority bar associations; (b) increase opportunities for diverse attorneys; and (c) earn its 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. 

A partner in Wiley’s Insurance and Litigation practices, Mr. Lemley is known for his work in civil litigation matters, primarily in the areas of professional liability coverage and malpractice litigation in federal and state courts. He also represents attorneys and small law firms in ethics matters and investigations. 

Mr. Lemley received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center, and his B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of North Florida. He has also been an adjunct professor at George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School since 2002, and a mock trial coach at Georgetown University Law Center for more than 15 years.
