Wiley Rein Names Senior Advisor Scott Weaver to Co-Lead Public Policy Practice

Wiley Rein LLP is pleased to announce that senior public policy advisor Scott Weaver has been named co-chair—and will lead the day-to-day operations—of the firm’s Public Policy Practice.  The Practice, which represents a wide range of clients before the Administration, Congress, and various regulatory bodies, has served for decades as an industry-leading advocate with an established record of success.  Mr. Weaver serves as co-chair of the Group along with Jim Slattery, the former six-term Democratic congressman who joined the firm in 2009.

An experienced former senior-level Republican Capitol Hill staffer and successful public policy advocate, Mr. Weaver has assisted Wiley Rein’s clients for more than five years in advancing their business interests in Washington, DC.  Throughout his career, he has worked closely with members of Congress on both sides of the aisle, as well as House and Senate leadership, committees, and government agencies.  Mr. Weaver joined the firm in 2009 after serving as the vice president of Government and Political Affairs for Airports Council International – North America.  Prior to that, he served as chief of staff for former Rep. Katherine Harris (R-FL) and a policy advisor for former Rep. John Sullivan (R-OK). He has also played key roles in a number of Republican House, Senate, gubernatorial and presidential races.

Mr. Weaver has assisted numerous clients with a myriad of legislative priorities working with congressional members and staff regarding transportation, homeland security, financial services, tax, labor, health care, environmental, appropriations, and telecommunications issues.  He has developed and implemented successful lobbying campaigns and comprehensive coalitions on a variety of issues.  Additionally, he has served as chief lobbyist for high-priority legislative, political, and media efforts for private sector entities and serves on a number of Congressional Steering Committees, Policy Boards, and Finance Committees.  He also worked for the National Association of Home Builders in an advocacy and political role.

Wiley Rein’s Public Policy Group provides clients with technical expertise and high-level advocacy while possessing the legal resources of a national law firm.  The Public Policy Team represents trade associations, start-ups, publicly traded companies, and small and large businesses that operate in the areas of telecommunications, defense, health care, energy, transportation, and international trade.  The Group works closely with members of Congress in both parties, members of the Executive branch, and federal regulators on a broad variety of complex issues.
