Jan Baran Discusses ‘Dark Money’ and ‘Gray Money’ in State and Local Politics
Jan Witold Baran, co-chair of Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was a featured guest July 21 on NPR’s The Diane Rehm Show, discussing the growth of so-called “dark money” and “gray money” spending in state and local election campaigns. The spending is reported to government agencies but does not always disclose the sources of funding. Former CNN reporter Frank Sesno sat in for Diane and moderated the discussion with Mr. Baran, Brennan Center for Justice attorney Chisun Lee, FEC Commissioner Ann Ravel and WAMU reporter Patrick Madden. The program was prompted by a recent report on the subject by the Brennan Center.
