Erik Baptist Blog Post on EPA’s Risk Evaluation Process Under TSCA Draws Media Coverage
A blog post by Erik C. Baptist, partner in Wiley Rein’s Environment & Product Regulation Practice, was cited by Inside EPA's Risk Policy Report in coverage of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ongoing risk evaluations of chemicals currently in commerce under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The December 3 article referenced a November 15 blog post that Mr. Baptist authored for The Wiley Environmental Law Line (The WELL).
Mr. Baptist’s post suggested that the EPA could conduct a less formal peer review of its draft assessments of toxic substances outside of the Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals (SACC). Inside EPA reported that EPA chemical safety chief Alexandra Dunn subsequently “echoed [Mr. Baptist’s] suggestion” when she told the SACC that there are many ways to conduct peer reviews and the agency may no longer ask the SACC to perform chemical-by-chemical peer reviews.
