Anna Gomez Discusses Progress of FCC’s Advisory Committee on Diversity and Digital Empowerment
Wiley partner Anna M. Gomez, who serves as Chair of the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) Advisory Committee on Diversity and Digital Empowerment (ACDDE), was quoted by TR Daily in coverage of the committee’s February 11 meeting.
The ACDDE provides advice and recommendations to the FCC regarding how to empower disadvantaged communities and accelerate the entry of small businesses, including those owned by women and minorities, into the media, digital news and information, and audio and video programming industries.
The virtual meeting included updates from several ACDDE working groups on their progress toward completing various initiatives in advance of a June 24 final meeting of the committee’s current charter, according to the article.
Ms. Gomez noted that while committee members have continued to work together throughout the COVID-19 pandemic by connecting online, similar opportunities are not available to everyone. This illustrates the types of challenges the ACDDE seeks to address, she added.
“We are motivated by the knowledge that many people, especially people of color, do not have that same access, and we are motivated by ensuring the diversity of voices in tech and broadcasting,” Ms. Gomez said. “The ACDDE working groups have really pushed the pedal to the metal as we round the final lap in this ACDDE’s chapter.”
At Wiley, Ms. Gomez is a member of the preeminent Telecom, Media & Technology Practice and co-chairs the firm’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Practice. She previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. She also served in various positions at the FCC, including Senior Legal Advisor to the Chairman, Deputy Chief of the International Bureau, and Chief of the Network Services Division in the Common Carrier (now Wireline Competition) Bureau.
