Michael Toner Discusses the Stakes for Mitt Romney’s Convention Speech

The Hill
August 27, 2012

Wiley Rein Election Law & Government Ethics Practice co-chair Michael Toner was quoted by The Hill while discussing the importance of presumed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s convention speech this week in Tampa, Florida.  Mr. Toner said Thursday’s speech was the candidate’s best opportunity outside of the presidential debates to sway undecided voters.

“You’ve got an hour before the nation to lay out your priorities,” said Mr. Toner, the former chairman of the Federal Election Commission, during a breakfast panel discussion in Tampa.  “That 60-minute period of time is the most important moment for the governor in the coming weeks.”  Mr. Toner added that Mr. Romney should pick “three or four thematic points” to communicate to undecided voters what he would accomplish as president.
