Wiley Rein's Jan Baran Films Pilot for New Public Affairs Show on PBS
Jan Baran, co-chair of Wiley Rein's Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was part of an all-star ensemble cast featured in Politico that gathered at a Newseum studio last week to shoot the pilot for "The Whole Truth," a new public affairs show moderated by former Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA).
The PBS pilot will focus on the Supreme Court's Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission ruling and the broader affect the 2010 decision has had on political influence and discourse. Mr. Baran filed a brief with the Supreme Court in support of Citizens United.
Also part of the pilot's ensemble cast is former Sens. Evan Bayh (D-IN) and Fred Thompson (R-TN); law professor Lawrence Lessig of Harvard University, reporter Adam Liptak of The New York Times; Jeffrey Rosen of The George Washington University Law School; John Samples and Ilya Shapiro of the Cato Institute; writer Jeffrey Toobin of the New Yorker and Nina Totenberg of National Public Radio.
The show's executive producer told Politico that they "want the sense of an oral argument before the Supreme Court, we want to have the sense of legislative discourse in Congress. This is about probing and investigating, and as the name implies, getting to the heart of an issue."
The episode is set to run nationally on a yet-to-be-scheduled date early next year.
