Dan Pickard Discusses Extending Tariff of Chinese-Made Diamond Sawblades

Daniel B. Pickard, a partner in Wiley Rein’s International Trade Practice, was quoted in an article published June 3 in Free Times about Swedish company Husqvarna and its opposition to continuing a tariff on diamond sawblades from China.

According to the article, Husqvarna, which manufactures diamond sawblades in both South Carolina and China, is opposed to extending the tariff, which is up for review this year and will be the subject of a June 23 U.S. International Trade Commission hearing. Mr. Pickard represents a group of U.S. manufacturers that support continuing the tariff.

“In a normal case what you would imagine is the U.S. industry would say, ‘We want relief’ and the foreign producers would say, ‘We promise if we come into the market we’re not going to hurt people again,’” Mr. Pickard said. “What makes this weird is it’s not Chinese producers. It’s Husqvarna who is leading the charge. … They’re actively taking a position opposing continued relief for U.S. companies and U.S. workers.”

The article was republished in The Times and Democrat.
