Jan Baran Discusses Congressional Ethics During the Holiday Season
Jan Witold Baran, co-chair of Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was quoted in The Washington Post in an article published online and in the printed paper on December 12 and December 15, respectively, about ways that members of Congress navigate ethical rules during the holiday season.
According to the article, ethics rules bar lawmakers and their staff from attending holiday “parties” hosted by organizations such as trade associations and lobbying firms, but attending a “reception” is acceptable. “That’s the magic language in the ethics rules,” Mr. Baran said.
